Lugansk sometimes spelt (Luhansk ) is a city in southeastern Ukraine.

The city traces its history to 1795, when the British industrialist Charles Gascoigne founded a metal factory there. Lugansk was founded as a coalmining centre and a location for iron foundries producing cannon.

It is the administrative center of the predominantly Russian-speaking Lugansk Region.

The current estimated Lugansk population is around 445,900.
